Re: CARP! The official 2014 carp thread
I was wondering maybe this would be a good place to ask, if there are any fishing stores that carried or specialized in carp tackle. I've been looking for two types of items, one is a threader of sorts, it's used for threading pop-up boilies(for carp). I know there are generic threaders available at the Outdoor Emporium but those are more for live bait like threading panfish. Stores within the Seattle area would be great but I don't mind traveling a bit further out if necessary. I suppose my other option would be to just make my purchases online.
And also Carp bait:
Thanks in advance, any info would be greatly appreciated

I bought a few things for carp last time I was in the South. (Kentucky) If you are interested I'd be happy to mail them to you. They are in a bag of tackle I was looking to give away, and set aside. Mostly it was what I call tubes..
Meaning a tube piece for dough baits, and the tube has many holes cut into it. This allows the dough bait to melt out while soaking. I've got a few other things though I think. Send me a PM if you'd like me to mail it to you. I'm not looking for any $$

Stuff like carp gear is a very good example of how the availability of fishing gear is very different within dif. parts of the country. In the South it's all about panfish gear and carp gear. Up here those two items are very limited at least compared to the mid west or the South. You'll do much better ordering online.
Re: CARP! The official 2014 carp thread
Is there any real carp fisherman out there ? I love carp fishing and put every one of them back nothing better then setting the traps and catching a monster of a fish ! If you are one of those bellends who thinks fish can become fertilizer then you are a idiot of the highest order that should never be classed as an angler !

That post is a little bizarre... we do need a few to keep this place moving, so, I'll just defer to science. Fish goes into soil, bigger plants come out of said soil due to C, N and P of said fish placed into soil. Have a grand day! ;)

are we going to go down this road? really? With their abundance around these parts, I don't feel like we necessarily need to c&r unless it is really a specimen, but to each his own.
I like targeting carp although I have little experience though I have acquired some tackle for it. If anyone is interested in meeting up and targeting them I'd really interested.

My problem is not with taking a fish home with you , it's the idiots that say they would throw it on the bank and leave it there ! Or leave it on a road and let a car run over it !! It's disrespectful the only place that people who talk like this should be is at home in their moms basement playing call of duty with their online 'friends'. Respect nature or do you think bass are native to this area too ?

The only references I see in this whole string about throwing fish on the bank or in the road were also referenced as a long time a ago when they were kids. My guess is that you have not always been this enlightened and have done some things in the last few years when you were a kid that you wouldn't do today. So, my suggestion, take a breath, read the forum rules (specifically regarding what will result from name calling) then head back down to the basement and get some gaming time in while your mom's cooking dinner. Or better yet, go fishing, catch some carp, and post up some pics and methods

Re: CARP! The official 2014 carp thread
So is there anywhere in the forum rules that say treat fish with respect ? Is there anywhere that says teach kids the basic mannerisms while fishing ? I would post photos and be happy to teach people but the bad eggs have proved that if I explain things on an open forum , it will be used for the wrong reasons .

Re: CARP! The official 2014 carp thread
Carp are an invasive and destructive species. They don't belong in our waters. While I am grateful for the oppurtunity to catch them, I would rather see them exterminated and a resurgence of actual native fish that have been threatened by their introduction.
This is why I eat bass. When I was a kid, I buried a carp under a sunflower that I planted, just like the pilgrims did. I learned about it in school. I won a prize for that sunflower. Don't discount the value of fertilizer. There is a reason why there is a distaste for carp, and that's why you don't need a license, or even a fishing pole to fish for them. The guys that shoot a pile of carp and feed them to the russians or make compost from them are doing a public service.
I eat bass. Not carp, I tried it and I don't like it. But I'll give it away to someone who does. I don't have a compost pile, but if I did, I'd fill it with carp.

This may be futile at this point but I'll give it one more shot..chrismac wrote:So is there anywhere in the forum rules that say treat fish with respect ? chrismac, you've posted 6 times on the forums of this website and 5 of those 6 are bitching and moaning. Now on that one post regarding boilies, how exactly have the "bad eggs" used the information you provided for the wrong reasons? It is obvious you know a little about carp fishing and are passionate about it. Why not use that pent up anger to educate instead of slamming the general populace and alienating yourself. There are many many cool and ethical people on this site that know a whole lot more about all types of fishing than you & I could ever hope to learn on our own. If you want to be a part of this community by all means, contribute and be a part. If you don't then feel free to move along.

Once it starts to warm up over here on the east coast I'll be after them steady untill I ship out. Have started seeing some smaller class fish ( 7- 12 pound) moving around but it's still cold, the bigger (35- 50 pound) fish are hunkered down. Will try to upload some fish porn once we get into them. For now it's still fishin for the browns.

In high school I worked at a meat market back in Wisconsin. On occasion we'd have a customer bring in a carp for smoking. To my inexperienced taste buds they tasted pretty good.

If you recall, was it made into sort of a jerky? Super dry? I'd give it a try.Mike Carey wrote:In high school I worked at a meat market back in Wisconsin. On occasion we'd have a customer bring in a carp for smoking. To my inexperienced taste buds they tasted pretty good.
Four decades ago, I was taught to toss squaw fish up on the bank when caught in MT rivers. Today, northern pike minnow carry a bounty in some rivers here. I wouldn't hesitate to toss em in the brush today.
