Im looking to book a guide for a steelhead trip up on the olympic peninsula for me and my dad for his birthday. I also dont want to pay an arm and a leg. Thanks in advance.

I'd also recommend Danny. Great guy and amazing fisherman. Went out with him also this year and had one right around the 20 pound mark too.

I reccomend Danny for the OP. A great guy and a great fisherman. Hes usually booked so good luck getting a date. Reel priorities is a walk in bank guide I beleieve on the Sky system of rivers!

I can't say enough about this guide. He lives on the OP. He is a 3rd generation guide. (His grandfather in his '70's is still rowing drift boats guiding people) When this guy, "Mike" was 14 y/o, his mother would drop him off at the river with a drift boat, and he would take adults who had booked trips, out on various OP rivers.
All I'm saying is that he has lived it for many years.

Also, when I go with him.. I don't even know what river it is going to be until the very night before.. He is looking at the flows, the current info, whatever.. I get a message, and it's meet him at so in so bend in the river before zero-dark 30.

We are anchored on the river in the dark.. while he is rigging up your gear in the dark. We are always the 1st boat down the river. If the river is running low, the guy is jumping out of the boat and pushing (you) and the boat across rocks.

One other thing.. I have fished with guides that run you down the river.. Tell your where to cast. yahdah.. yadah....
Next thing you know you are moving down the river.
This guy... He says, " Hey, that is a really productive spot in the river. I want to go back up there and drift it again"
OK?? So.. he reverse pumps that boat back up the river.. and sends you through the slot again!

My last guide on the Yakima, ran us down the river at full throttle, so he could get back to "Redds" and pick up his next client for a quick late afternoon run down the river.

There are more than one great guide for sure, but I think this guy is great and homegrown.
I've fished with him 5x. That meaning, I've only Steelhead fished maybe twice. He put me on a 19lb native steely, and a 30lb King. In maybe the first two outings.

Based on my limited experience with guides thus far, I just want to point out that some guides focus on putting you onto fish (they cast/troll to get a fish on, and then they hand you the rod to reel it in) and then there are those who let you fish and teach you their knowledge. Of the two types, I infinitely prefer the second, because so much of the sport is learning the ins and outs of techniques, location, reading water, etc. etc. I don't want to pay a guide just so I can play fish wrangler, I want to try to fish myself with his help, even if it means fewer fish or no fish at all. You may prefer to be put onto as many fish as necessary. To each his own.

you should have called! Would have been happy to drag you away from those little silver bullets for a much larger silver bullet
