Ocean shores Jetty fishing???

Post by Bay wolf » Wed Sep 21, 2016 10:58 am

OK, we all know that the Westport Jetty can be pretty darn good fishing. And, at Ocean Shores, the surf perch fishing is awesome off the beaches. My question is; How to productively fish the Jetty at Ocean shores? I've fished it on and off for many years. Done well on Greenling and the occasional perch. But have never caught Black Sea bass, Lings or Cabs off this Jetty. I've fished the Grays Harbor side. On the other side, Ocean Shores side, the surf perch fishing can be fantastic.

I'd like to get some sea bass to add to the greenling. And has anyone EVERY caught salmon off this jetty?

Anybody actually fish this jetty and catch sea bass? I can't imagine they would be on the westport side and not on this side of the harbor mouth.

Anyway, give me a few ideas to try on our next outing.

Than you,

BW

Try taking a kayak out and fish the sunken jetty. That is where you will find a bunch of black rocks , some nice lings , and an occasional cabezon. Fish in an area where there is a good water flow through the rocks--- that is where baitfish hang out and so do the predators. It can be outstanding fishing . And the fish are bigger than over at the Westport jetty.

I agree fish jigs or bait. Cast it out and jig it back. [flapper]

You probably would have better luck with a mooching rig and a sardine or herring injected with bait oils.

I am Curious about the sunken Jetty. I recently purchased a kayak for fishing and looking for places to bottom fishing without going through the surf. By chance Is crabbing reasonably good inside the bar also on the Ocean Shores side?
