First post here. I went fishing yesterday after noon and have not fished since october. I had my regular PB set up when my girlfriend talked me into adding a honey worm to my normal rig. I thought...what does she know....ok just to make her happy, I did it. Well it payed off. Caught two 13.5" holdovers from the shore at Island Lake in Kitsap County. After returning to home I scrambled to find a forum to post this technique. Cool thing was it has been in use for years. Thanks Fishnislife!!!

Only difference is I did use the Rainbow tourbo dough, but instead of a crawler, I hooked a yellow Power Honey Worm in the mid section under the ball of PB. Then I added some Pro-Cure Anise Krill oil. They wouldnt stop biting!

Anyways great forum they have here...right on! Good fishing!

Hey Bengal Ben your location looks quite familiar. I think I have been there before. :clown:

Thats a great tip, I have fished the combo before but never have seen the correct way to rig it. Thanks Fishinislife, I might get to try it today...

I haven't been on here in years, but I'm back now. It sure is great to see fishermen talking about powerbait in a positive way. I have been using the ball and crawl method for about 5 years and have caught numerous holdovers. Keep up the good work.

i would have tested this way out at battleground but i forgot my worms, worms are the best bait at battleground, you can catch holdover cutties, rainbows and browns right in the same spot, powerbait only works on stocker trout, (at least for me)

The main reason I use the ball and crawl method, is that the powerbait floats the worm, and that little devil dances on top of the ball. Normally I use a bullet weight with a round toothpick and have the bait floating about 18 inches off the bottom.

i secound that, and the powerbait adds a little scent for ya.

but if you dont have powerbait you can use a "little corkie" it works just fine.

a floatable bead with a hole in the middle to run your line through. Come in all sorts of colors and are very popular for fishing in rivers...

Those styrofoam "fish pills" are good for adding buoyancy and a little color. They are not hard like corkies. One of my favorite bait rigs is a couple of gulp eggs with a fish pill between them. The only down-side is that they usually get torn up when you catch a fish. They are relatively cheap so it's not a big deal.

thanks! this is good info. fish can be picky bitters for alot of reasons, and i'm sure we've all been out there and ended up throwing the whole box at them trying to hook up. i've never tried rolling PB into a 'worm' shape tho. new ammo for the arsenal [thumbup] . i'm all for changing it up when 'my usual' isn't producing. after all, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and getting the same (negative) results. for years, i've used a power egg (or even two with the bigger fish), one covering the knot and eye above the hook and/or at the top of the shank, with a worm or some PB beneath. sometimes even PB egg>worm> PB on the tip. a marshmellow and worm or PB just might be the ticket sometimes. i'll even try threading a worm and have it covering a bit of the line as well as part of the shank, leaving some dangling, then tipping it with PB. i often travel long distances to go fishing, so if it's an option, and artificials aren't doing the trick, i'll switch th bait in a minute. it always feels better coming home with something in the box.

thanks for the tread. there's lots of threads about guys talking favorite lures, but not many about the different uses of bait... [thumbsup]

I agree trout are not to smart when it comes to bait especially power bait or gulp bait.Ive caught plenty of wild steelhead on power bait and also wild rainbows in Alaska it makes no difference they eat it.Its partially the reason why most high mountain lakes and streams are no bait because you would catch the fish. The shape of the power bait does not matter just make sure enough to float hook leader length is all i think matters and line dia.I just was at Goodwin today and got 10 carry overs in an hour or 2 they didnt seem very smart to me just hungry as hell.

I've totally converted to Berkley GULP! eggs rather than power bait or power eggs. They are nearly as durable as power bait eggs and the fish really nail it.
