Wall mounted rod holder options, or DIY?
What are some of you using for a wall mounted rod holder? Either vertical or horizontal. I came home with one from Cabellas, and it’s junk, or going in the garbage.
Of course a guy could fabricate something, but I just sold all my woodworking gear.
Post a pic, if you have something that you really like.
Edit: I may just buy 15-20 screw in stud hooks, like you hang a bag from.

Out in my garage in a corner is a rather large planter that I stand rods up in.
In a spare bedroom is a 6 gallon crock in a corner where I do the same.
Some have reels seated, some don't. All that are 2 piece are kept together with twist ties until time to leave the house and go fishing. Pipe cleaners work well too.
Not what you were asking for - just a different option.

At last count, I have around 12 salmon, steelhead, trout and bottom fishing rods. I hang them on hooks screwed into the ceiling of my garage. Since I park my Seahawk in the garage most of the rods are easy to reach, just get in the boat or stand on the trailer fenders. Works pretty good, the rods are safe and out of the way.
The only problem I have is the hooks are not circular. They are typical hooks, like you would hang clothes on. The circular hooks are either too small or they are real big ones like you would use to hang a bicycle. Anybody know where I can get circular hooks the right size for rods? I've looked around and I cant find any.

Thanks for the response guys.
Barchaser, I’d love to see a pic. Not quite sure what you meaning by “Hanging on hooks”

Screw in style hooks like these. Can find vinyl coated ones at most any hardware store. Couple with a closed loop "hook" for the rod butt and you've got instant, custom made rod holders. Works good unless, as in my case, the ceiling is 14' high.

I think it would be cheap and easy to do one out of PVC pipe and tees. Just glue the tees in series with a little pipe in between and add a piece of pipe ti the outlet of the tee for a little length. I searched PVC rod holder on the internet and there was a bunch of different types. Some freestanding, some for overhead, some for wall mounted, even one that looked to hold 20 rods with a handle and wheels.

I cut the end off of a bunch of spent 12 ga shotgun shells and slit them, screwed them to a board. They work ok. What works better is the two part one I got from Amazon. Adjustable and holds them securely. My spare rods are all just tipped into a corner in the garage, laying on top of each other...

Re: Wall mounted rod holder options, or DIY?
My dad made me this for xmas a few years ago. but most of my rods are stored in rafters of my garage.... I have a stairway to the 2nd floor of my garage that makes easy access to the rods.
I did a google search and found some good ideas.

Salmonkiller, PVC... you gotta loves it. For me PVC is #2 man’s creation, right behind Zip Ties.
I’ll crafting something up this weekend. Thanks for the pics.

ran out of wall space in the shop, working on second layer... +1 for pvc!

I made these holders many years ago for my little aluminum boat. Modified an existing design & made from 1/4 inch rubber for horse stalls. One of these days, I'll come up with something that I can transport rods with, store rods with and mount in the boat when fishing.....

That's got to make breaker panel access difficult, but it's all about priorities.Sideburns wrote:ran out of wall space in the shop, working on second layer... +1 for pvc!
