Mercury Quicksilver help I lost the key

Post by Outdrsguy » Wed Apr 02, 2008 4:23 pm

I need help! I been search the net for information on a Key??? for a Mercury Quicksilver starting system. Seems in trailering my new (used to me) boat home the key attached to one of those floating devices flew out of the boat Yea Yea I'm a bone head for leaving it in the boat but does anyone have any ideas. It does not look like a regular key system as there is a small rod where a key would notmlly go and printed on top says start and bottom says Stop like you insert like a key and turn to the position of choice.

The other item of interest to me is the fish finder- What came with the boat is the mounting bracket and all that goes with it that is all set to go except the finder itself. It is a Hummingbird and seems the finder just slips into place but all the finders I been looking at only have two wires coming out of the bracket this one has four! Any ideas? I would like to just replace the finder rather than buy the whole system.

Thank you

What colors are the wires? On my old one there was a red a black and 2 whites. I am pretty sure the whites are just grounding wires. I just hooked the black to the black and red to red. I didnt even worry about the whites.

My new one is a humminbird mounted to the boat. You push a button and the whole screen comes off. No wires to worry about, you pretty much just plug it in. I would recomend this set up. The mount for humminbird is universal, so if you ever decide to upgrade fish finders, you dont to replace any mounts or brackets.

Thanks for the help gpc.

All the wires are black!

Can a new model slip right into the mount I have or do they change mounts with each new model do you know?

If you have a modern Mercury/Quicksilver ignition, replacement keys are easy to find. They only make 12 patterns and any Merc dealer can get you a replacement PDQ.
