WDFW Stocking Report-Tiger Trout

Post by Rooscooter » Thu Apr 10, 2008 8:29 pm

I just downloaded the Spring 2008 stocking report from the WDFW website and noticed a lot of local (East side) lakes are getting Tiger Trout fry. Fish lake near Cheney has had Tigers for the last 5 or 6 years and I have caught them in Black Lake (east of Colville) and in Crab Creek.

Local lakes (East side)on the list to get fry plants:
Clear Lake
Medical Lake
Fish Lake
Silver Lake
Williams Lake
Black Lake
Gillette Lake
Heritage Lake
Leo Lake
Sherry Lake
Thomas Lake
Sacheen Lake

I have found over the last few years of fishing at Fish Lake that these are a very aggressive fish that put up a great fight. Additionally, they are a very unique looking fish.

I look forward to catching them in all of the above listed lakes in a couple of years.

Thanks for the detailed list. I wished I lived closer to those lakes stocked with Tiger Trout. You have me jealous. Looking forward to your reports Rooscooter. Go get that state record.

What is the State Record for Tigers?

I heard it came from Crab Creek a couple of years ago.

The largest one I have so far is about 3lbs and 20"....caught at Fish Lake. This one was by far the biggest I have caught. The more "usual" size is between 10 and 14".

You gotta love it....they're definitely unique. I'm especially fond of those in Medical Lake, where last year I got several 18" and one 21" tiger. Cannot wait to see how they look this year!

Thats funny because I just read about the state record Tiger last night. The "WDFW 2008 fishing prospects" says that a state record of 6 pounds came out of Lenice lake in 2006.
I hope to catch one to mark it off the list someday.

It will be interesting to see what happens with them in the Little Pend Oriielle lakes chain. If they are not over harvested in those lakes, they may get to be good size. Large Tiger Trout out of Leo would be fantastic. It is such a pretty lake.

I fished Blue Lake a couple of years ago with plans of setting a tiger trout record. Fished for 3 days with no tigers to the boat. They got caught out the previous year as they are not shy about biting. Had the application form with me and knew where the closest certified scale was....only problem was lots of rainbows and no tigers.

We were trolling rapalas at the thermocline and lots of eager fish, just no tigers

Someone's bound to ask, so it might as well be me...

What westside lakes have Tigers?

The official state record is 6.26lbs. caught at Lenice Lake by Dennis Werlau in 2006.

According to the 2011 Washington Fishing prospects book on the WDFW website the Most Current State Record Tiger Trout exceeding 14lbs was harvested from Fish Lake Spokane County in the Spring of 2008.
