when cooking crab I think it's best to boil it in salt water (some water from the sound is good) for at least 20 minutes. If the meat is rubbery at all then it's not done and can be steamed for an aditional 10 minutes. I usually make garlic butter to dip it in after it's cracked.:chef:
Sounds like you got a big one! Good job.:thumleft:

Hey The One .Was it a Red Rock or just an all red crab? Did the pinchers have black tips?Im asking cuz there are two different red type crabs. The Red Rocks have black tipped claws.and the Red Crab that is found in the eel grass close to shore is another.Red Rocks are hella good. The plain red ones are decent but very little meat.I boil mine in boiling hot salted water for 17 minutes. No butters wine or anything but salt.after they cool you can do the butter thing.

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

I boil for 10 minutes and they turn out perfect every time. I use salt water from the Sound. Nothing else added to the water.

Just curious.... which part of the crab's body did you measure to get "7 inches" ?TheOne wrote:....he was mabey 7 inches long or bigger......
That's a big red rock crab. I've been catching them since the late 1970s, and I've run into very few that are that big.
