Rock lake Cheney/Spokane

Post by beerbohm » Sat Oct 25, 2008 6:50 pm

I was thinking about heading out to Rock lake on Monday with a buddy. I have not seen any reports on it and was wondering if any one has been there and how the fishy's are biting. You can tell me your secrets as I don't eat fish and they all get thrown back.

I only fished Rock Lake one time and that was several years ago. Fishing with my oldest son, we both caught some nice largemouth bass. My best fish was only about 3 1/2 pounds but made the cover of "Washington Fishing Holes." Son Donald hooked a big beauty of over 6 pounds. They were all released. Good luck.
A nice bass is too valuable a resource to enjoy catching only once.

You don't mention if you are fishing from a boat or the bank? Due to snaggy and limited bank access, it is best fished from a boat. However, the large brown trout, rainbows and bass can all be caught from the bank with worms or by casting small plugs.

From newspaper reports, conflicts between bank anglers and launching boaters have been a recent problem. If bank fishing, please be considerate and move if a boat needs to launch at the rather primative launch area.

This is a quote from October 24th in the SpokesmanReview:
"An excellent brown trout bite is packing the public access at Rock Lake. Anglers trolling Firetiger Apexes and either trolling or casting the new HummBait are taking limits of big browns. Anglers targeting rainbow have gone with an old standby – the Flatfish."
