Last Weekend Pics

These are a few pics from last weekend and a few weekends before from hunting up by Marysville. Both times that I have been out this year so far have been too nice of weather for productive hunting but there are still a few flyer's even when it is dead calm and sunny. My friend also got a goose this last weekend but I didn't post the pic because I don't know if he would want his pic on the internet or not.

You need a small game permit for upland birds- quail, pheasants, chukar, partridge. For waterfowl you need a state migratory stamp and a federal migratory stamp. That covers ducks and geese. But.... you need to check the regs for the limits on individual species of waterfowl.

Crappiemaster has it right on the regs. The only part that he missed is that you need a special permit for Sea Ducks (unless the state did away with that rule). I am pretty sure that you still need the Sea Duck permit for these species if harvesting them (haven't checked since last year).

yep you need a sea duck permit to harvest scoter, long tailed duck, and haliqun. and maybe something else I forgot

Was that salt or fresh Mallard?? Is it true in calm weather they are in the salt, and the wind blows them inland?? I'm not a waterfowl hunter, just curious. I heard that on that Saturday morning radio show...Northwest Outdoors or something like that (6-8am on Sat.). Ever listen to it??

Wind bad weather , rain creates the birds to feel pressure and move 1.5:-# hour before last light pack the loads the birds are coming for those who know the lines
Bad weather on Quakers and Queese a winner/blue bird skies a Bust!
Upland we like it cold as well birds tend to ball up in numbers for group warmth and heat real upland East!!!:-$

Oh, yeah, You fellas are right on the sea duck permit. I am so far in the Eastern part of the state we don't need the sea duck permit. I just got permission to hunt 5000 acres of private land on the Yakima Indian Reservation. Lots of corn, alfalfa and grapes. The corn circles border the Yakima river and Satus creek. I am excited to hunt this new territory. Lots of waterfowl and upland birds. I have to get a reservation permit for that as well, but it will be worth it. I will post some pix this weekend.

:bounce: Crappie master Heck yes( post them up) pressed dogs all over that area and we still have a family farm just outside White Swan wore out 10 dogs over there and all my upland buds got fat and lost there drive:colors:
Will be back next year and the cock birds I posted came right smack where your talking my cousin and many others family members buried on the highway out there I stop buy every spring!
Post them up I have hundreds from those hunts Brownston, Harrah to Swan and all the hills and creeks and river!!!!

Right on Swedefish. I don't hunt that deep on the Rez. Although I'd like to. A buddy of mine works for the Bureau as their waterfowl biologist, and he has taken me to some pretty cool areas down between Harrah and White Swan around Toppenish creek. He doesn't set out decoys, just jumps the creeks over their and gets his limits jump shooting. I like to set out dekes and coax them in, but I don't mind a good stalk and shoot now and then, especially in the fog. I hunt mostly on the eastern part of the rez between Mabton and Granger on the Totus and Satus areas. I definitely will post some pics. I coach high school wrestling for Mabton so my Saturdays are pretty booked for the rest of the season, but there is always Sundays and the birds are really starting to show around here now.

but my uncle went over to odessa, and was bow hunting and he nailed a 6x5 buck.

The top two pics were at the mouth of Ebey Slough, so it is a mixture of salt and fresh. The two pics in the middle were upriver near Ebey Island. The biggest thing that pushes the birds inland is a combination of wind and tides. If it is too windy out on the bay they will pick up and move in to calmer waters. The best time to hit the tides is on an incoming tide. This is because the ducks are out on the sand flats feeding until the tide comes up and forces them inland. And no I haven't ever listened to that show, but I might have to check it out.
