One thing occurs to me, there are various grades and types of pil. So for this contest's purpose we will use the Jan 09 NY Mercantile quote - unless someone has a better idea of what to use. Here's today's close:
Crude Oil Jan 09(NY Mercantile: CLF09.NYM)
Last Trade: 40.81
Trade Time: 5:14PM ET
Change: 1.93 (4.42%)
Darn. Looks like I'm out already. Some much for the free lures.
I hope it hits $25!!!
I have caught many fish in my life. The most exciting? The next one.....

A nice bass is too valuable a resource to enjoy catching only once.

It occurs to me we need a cut-off date for guesses, so let's say December 12th.

You said a low for the year. How can you call a low for 2008 by ending it on December 12th?:-s

That's the last day to make your prediction for what you think the low will be. If we allowed predications up to Dec 31st that would hardly work for the people that make their guesses this week.

The low for oil has already been put in this month. From here, only higher. The $30's for oil will be seen in 2009, not 2008...well that's my predication anyways...worth a grain of salt
Oil will follow the stock market. Expect the equity market to trade in a range from 7,500 - to 10,000 (on the DOW) for the next few months. Watch for gold (GDX) and related commodities to surge such as silver (SLW) via mega-government-induced inflation. This bodes horribly for the dollar which has been trading on thin, thin ice as of late. The bond-market is about to explode with yields artifically low and moves in the treasury market not witnessed for decades. Commodity plays are about 1-3 months away from take-off with gold well above $1000/oz by March. Buy many commodities now to hedge against inflation, watch oil spike here in the near term but head lower, and lower. Pick a few good engineering and construction firms like Jacbos Engineering (JEC) and Flour (FLR) and look for the high yielders like Catepillar (CAT). Oil will follow the equity market in a relatively good range for the next few months. It's all fun to watch; unless you're retiring now and weren't properly diversified and allocated. Happy oildays! KTK

Correct - you need to pick a price that hasn't been used yet. And, BTW, it's closest guessed price either side (high or low). NO penalty for going "over".
