Beginner salmon fishing.

Post by Ditch Pickler » Mon Jul 06, 2009 6:37 pm

Anyone wanna share a tip or 2 on what i should use to catch salmon out on the puget sound? Some of my buddies that salmon fish tell me to use flashers with a 30-40" leader with a hoochie or coyote lure. Im gonna go out soon and give it a try on my sisters boat. Any tips or advice on what colors work well per species would be greatly apprieciated!!!

Just tryin to expand my fishing skills outside of freshwater bass. Since i never even fished freshwater until i moved up here. I grew up a striper, halibut saltwater angler! So i havent a clue on how to catch salmon...

If you need any bass advice i can give you a tip or 2 even though im a novice bass angler.... Thanks in advance!

Ok....Here is what you need to do....go to "the swede zone and look at this thread.... http://washingtonlakes.com/forum/yaf_po ... pener.aspx

There are other threads there also.....follow the instructions and you will be successful..... Swede told me that he has caught 27 kings in the past few weeks using this technique and over 400 salmon last year fell to Swedebonics 101. There are other ways to get salmon .....try going to http://www.salmonuniversity.com/ I have done well useing techniques from there. ......but Swede has got it down with his fishing experience..... I would follow his ways...They will work for you too. Good luck....If you can't afford to do all that is necessary at least use Smelly Jelly (blue) and don't let the salmon smell your scent... cover it with the Smelly Jelly...and use Silver Horde Scent bags off the downrigger lead. Use the techniques for distances of the leader.....Makes a big difference..... Again Good Luck to you, Steve

Bass, that Salmon U site has GREAT information on the PS/SJI areas for chrome. Those are popular, go-to spots that mark up fish regularly.

Spend a little time learning about how to rig up cut-plug herring as well. Last year the difference between my rod lighting up over and over and The Thumb's rod laying still was the roll of the herring (his was half-arsed, I like a wicked loopy large king roll).
