She'll hold onto the rod and try to reel in line. She's working on the coordination and it becomes difficult if the fish has some shoulders. She did do a few all on her own that were in the 12" range. Both these fish were caught between 8 and 9 AM. the topwater bite early in the AM was awesome but the smallies were not too accurate when blasting the baits.

The fish was long and lean. Over the last few weeks, the smallies I've caught have all been very fat, except this one. I suspect something was wrong with it. There were also some odd red marks - large, about the size of a quarter on the side of the fish. I was surprised to see the eyes as well, considering it was in the live well for no longer than an hour. It was still breathing and I tried recessitating the fish for 7-8 minutes, moving it back and forth in the water. It's fins began moving, trying to stabilize and I released it. Unfortunately I don't the outcome will be good and the crawdads will be feasting.

oh well, maybe next time the story will have a better ending.

way keep your kid fishing. she is definitely out fishing alot of anglers on here. watch out though, people will send her PMs and ask to fish with her before you know it. some might even ask her to guide.

*coughs* ahem -I think your memory is fading #-o . I couldn't help but to feel tickled when I watched you reach in your tackle box trying to match what I was using. I think you did that after the 10th fish I landed - copycat!! I am heading to Cabelas after work- and fishing again tonight when the witching hour happens- hit me up if you want to go again. :cyclopsan :bounce:
