Why was my classified post deleted

Post by tonymiller7 » Fri Sep 04, 2009 10:11 am

I just recently joined WALakes and posted some firearms I have for sale in the classified section. I did not read anything about not selling firearms or anything like that. So why was my post deleted after less than a day?

Hi Tony, I'm sorry I didn't get back to you about this. We've never had firearms for sale listed before (to my knowledge) and after considering it decided we didn't want to deal with any potential issues arising from using the site for gun sales by private members. I realize as I write this that we are showing an ad (fed to us) for online gun auctions, but that is a different situation than private sales.

I can see the transactions between individuales as a no brainer but... liability is a nasty bug to deal with. I like guns and have them but... Craigslist might be a better place for that.

Liability for what? The private sale of a firearm is not illegal, at least not yet. However, given the direction our current administration is headed, it will be shortly.

Actually craigslist prohibits all firearm sales.

I guess what I'm getting at is that you could have let me know before it was deleted. Or put something up in the classifieds stating no selling of firearms. I checked with a friend of mine who is a member on here and he also stated that he's seen guns for sale before. So if you're going to have a no firearms selling policy I think you should post it and make it known so that there is no confusion.

Toni, Absolutely, my bad for not giving you quicker notice. Got home from work today to deal with the issue and found I'm one step behind everyone else. My apologies.

I've added the restriction (plus a few others) to the Classified sticky.

I want to clarify something. I was the one that moved the post to Moderator Discussions and did not delete the post. I thought that it should be reviewed by the Administrators since there are very strict laws regarding weapons sales on the internet. I made this decision based on this information.

Craigs List does not allow sales of weapons on their site. Probably because of the same reason.
I am not trying to restrict any persons right to selling a weapon.

Send me any hate mail, not Mike.

It's OK, really, Marc is doing what a good Moderator is supposed to do. His help is EXTREMELY appreciated!

I should have contacted the member sooner. I got side-tracked. sometimes my life just gets spinning in circles. :compress:
