Yup. They seem to want to make it so only criminals have guns. Look at England and Australia. Look what happened to Germany, they gave up the right to have firearms and the natzis took over.

I walk Seward Park everynite and I pack Legal or not....When I fish remote areas I pack there too.My permit expired but I still pack.AMX is correct. Germany confiscated all guns in a small town after a Columbine type shooting there. All guns were to be returned to the owners after they were checked. The guns were sold at an auction and everyone who voluntarially gave up their weapons lost them.If they want mine its ok .They just have to pry it out my fingers after they shoot me!!!!!

The Black Diamond Police know I pack. They've seen it on my hip while launching the boat in the morning, and while retrieving the boat after midnight. They have no problem with it, and 2 officers laughed when I said, "The jacket is too short to cover it." :-)

This past July I was checked out after midnight by an officer that wasn't there when I backed the rig down the launch, but was there when I pulled out of the water, he was checking out a car there and checked me also. He had no problem with it.

Are you certain that this has gone into effect? I think it lost its legs as I can't find any record of it in the City's codes. Thankfully that schmuck is out of the running for re-election.

You can pack without a license as long as it isn't concealed. I typically carry some type of firearm when I'm out in the woods and in remote areas. You know, if they just enforced the laws already in place this kind of junk legislation wouldn't be necessary.

FYI - As understand it if enacted they can't ticket you or confiscate your weapon if you have a permit to carry or do not conceal it. The most they can do is escort you off the grounds or bar you from entering.

I think it's doomed to be repealed.

State Attorney General Rob McKenna in a statement, said he has a history of working to protect children's safety, but "as Mayor Nickels is aware, the Attorney General's Office issued an opinion in 2008, which found that state law pre-empts local authority to adopt firearms regulations, unless specifically authorized by law.

"Mayor Nickels is welcome to request legislation to change state law, but current state law pre-empts a city's authority to pass local laws prohibiting the firearms possession on city property or in city-owned facilities."

Now how are they going to tell that you have a concealed weapon? Who is going to pay for all the metal detectors needed and personnel required to enforce this BS? I wish we could get him to step down early and close his office until the election is done. It would save the City a ton of money and embarrassment.

Oh this law makes perfect sense. In city parks, where gangs run rampent, as well as shady homeless people, "Mayor" Nichols is going to take away the Constituntional (wow, butchered that) of law abiding citizens, and the ability to defend themselves and there family, from people who will carry illegal weapons anyway, and take this as an opprotunity to assualt even more defensless people.

If I could, I'd carry in those places anyway.

You may want to renewal your license if you're concealing. I mean, it's like $60 for 5 years or whatever. Better than whatever consequences if you're caught.

This new law is a bunch of BS. Nickels was already told about it not having a leg to stand on. It will be challenged and the law will be defeated. Yet he still pushed it through "for the children". Now it's just going to waste more tax-payers' dollars to try to "defend" this law in court. #-o

"Mayor McCheese" Ha ha ha! Wow. How is this terrible law suppose to protect children? Oh well, it's good that McKenna was on top of it. I do not know how the Seattle City Council is set up. Did the council vote on this to pass it?

This whole thing is dumb. It's not those of us that carry a concealed weapon legally that these idiots should be worried about. It's the ones shooting up the place and people for the dumbest of reasons. This came up as a "concern" after a shooting at Seattle center but oddly enough, Seattle center is not one of the locations that will be effected by this ban. My understanding is that once a sign has been posted (Starting today and will take till Dec to completed), that's when the new law will go into effect. I'm sure that there are law enforcement personnel on this site that may be able to clarify better.Lastly, I'm not sure that this will hold because I think state/federal laws would not support such a rule.

You nailed it Pradeep. I'm certainly not a lawyer but state law over powers city law.

I guess I'm curious as to why this "law" was adopted. Has there been an issue with legal concealed
weapons in Seattle parks? As far as I can tell, the answer is no but it would seem that their are several
incidents with guns/shootings from non legal gun owners,i.e. criminals.

I guess we'll have to see where this goes. I have my C.W.P. but don't have a pistol...yet.
I went in the reverse order:-$

Well we will see if were safer. These days if you look at someone wrong way they will shoot you.I really dont know how he can do this unless the parks where privately owned. We pay taxes to keep these parks open so I consider it a public place. These young kids will carry regardless they dont care.

Another thought, maybe if the Seattle/Tacoma police would crack down on gangs and other criminals, rather then penalizing citizens with legal CCW permits, innocent people wouldn't get shot in city parks?
