RE:Reiter ponds
what is the best way to fish reitor ponds. I have avoided in the past due to the heavy combat fishing but might go with a neighbor this week. Any suggestions or helpful hints?

RE:Reiter ponds
What I saw was everybody was using either a float/jig, or something other than a bottom drifting rig. It is full of large boulders and I think it would be a disaster to try and go with a corky/drift rig.

RE:Reiter ponds
That used to be the main way to fish it until floats came into style. It's OK water to drift fish in. You will lose some rigs. I prefer the feel of a steelhead take drift fishing. Nothing like that head shake to get the adrenalin going! The Quadfather wrote:What I saw was everybody was using either a float/jig, or something other than a bottom drifting rig. RE:Reiter ponds
Curado, this happened years ago (speaking of the combat zone at Reiters). It's a sad, and I think, true story. When you go to Reiters you park on the road and everyone lines up in their cars for "start time" about 100 yards up from the parking lot. When start time comes (which I can't remember when that is, it's been a few years) everyone races down to the lot, parks, and does a "brisk walk" to the river to grab their favorite spot. One year the brisk walk ended up causing an unfortunate angler a heart attack. From what I understand he had CPR and died there at the rivers edge, while guys around him continued to fish.
That's one definition of combat fishing.
Then there's the Blue Creek horror stories, but one ugly story at a time.

I was up there yesterday (Friday) from 7am - 2pm. Saw 1 fish caught - and it was on the other side of the river. S-L-O-W
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

RE:Reiter ponds
so if they are not at reiter yet, where are people catching steelhead? I have not seen any reports for steelhead, but there should be some around?
RE:Reiter ponds
Same thing for Saturday morning. Only saw one fish caught. Water is a very clear right now. Went down stream by the Hwy 2 bridge and caught nothing.Gringo Pescador wrote:I was up there yesterday (Friday) from 7am - 2pm. Saw 1 fish caught - and it was on the other side of the river. S-L-O-W
