Help a bass dude catch his first Steelhead...

Post by steve.carn » Sun Dec 20, 2009 9:41 pm

Hey guys,

Like the topic subject says, I'm a bass guy that wants to catch a steelhead. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I've got some free time these next couple weeks and will try to hit a certain stream as often as possible until I hook up. I've never caught a steelhead before, saw a guy with one from this stream today and figured I'd give it a try. I've fished for little mountain trout in small streams many times, using micro jigs and light gear, but never gone after steelhead.

I fish for bass alot and was interested in the plastic worm techniques people use to catch steelhead. I've seen a few websites mention using pink, wacky-rigged plastic worms for steelhead. Would this be a decent technique to use in a medium size to smaller stream? Also, alot of topics here about steelhead fishing mention using a strike indicator of some sort-is this commonly used when worm fishing?

Also, what's the lowest 'lb test line I could safetly go with? I'm not sure what's the normal setup for steelhead fishing. Thanks in advance!
