Salmon, but I couldn't ever just choose one. Some days i enjoy trout fishing and then there is the winter steelhead runs.

I was hoping this question wouldnt come up.

Pink salmon would be #1 just because of sheer numbers, but only being able to fish every other season would probally land me in jail.

Same with chums, they are only available during the worst weather months and really only offer a river fishery. And not to mention their table fare. I am by no means a salmon snob and DO eat chum, but they arnt the most desirable. And (like the pinks) can only be caught in the puget sound region

Forget about sockeye, there is really only 4 Pacific salmon species as far as I am concerned.

So we have kings and Cohos, have to give it to the CHINOOK SALMON . Its really the only species wich can offer a year round fishery. Summer runs, springers and winter black mouth. Not to mention you can catch them in the sound, 20 miles off shore, costal rivers and you can also catch them WAY up in the desert. Plus their ability to push 100+ lbs.

But its a very tough decision, maybe I will change my answer over to WALLEYE.

I gave Pinks a once over, but every other year? Well if we could exclude salmon, I would choose Smallmouth.

WOW i am a little surprised no one has picked STURGEON, They get my vote due to the pure size and fight, and the rarity of the fish, and a litttle icing on the cake is they are by far IMO the best smoked fish out there.
