I guess we could hope the Pike would help but I would not think so.
History shows that when an invasive species is introduced it has a negitive effect on the native species.
To think the Northerns would only feed on Pike Minnows is a farce.
If we could keep them out of the Columbia and the Snake, I would be all for it.

The Northern Pike is here and it may be to late to stop it.
If we classify the Northern as a gamefish with no limits we may slow it down.

I fish the Pend Orellie and I target the Northerns.
This is a top of the line preditor and is fun to catch but needs to be kept in check.

Its hard to think about the Columbia and the Snake without Salmon or Steelhead.
One day they will be gone.
IMHO! the Pike will make this happen faster.

Wow, You would think with all the time I spend reading this website I would have seen this thread before now. Where do I sign up for the club, and how can I be certain if I am a poser or a real pike fisherman? I have been catching Pike for over 20 years. I released over 200 of them this year alone. Does that qualify me as a real "Pike Fisherman"? I know there are "Lurkers" on this website that just read posts and comment only rarely, but so far I haven't noticed anyone that I believe is only pretending to actually be a pike fisherman. There are a lot of folks out there that don't have the time or the resources to actually make it out on the water to chase pike as often as they would like. That doesn't make them a poser. That makes them someone that wants to get out and catch pike more often. If you aren't a pike fisherman (Or fisherwoman) it's because you have never caught one. I have people ask me all the time, "Why do you fish for pike so often". I just tell them, "Jump in the boat with me and catch one. You will never ask that question again". The way put it to them is, once you hook one of them, you will be the one that is hooked. There is nothing more fun that watching the reaction of someone when they get there first pike bite. I have had first timers tell me that their heart is still racing 2 hours after they get their first bite.

As far as the situation with pike making it to the columbia from the POR and doing any damage goes. Give it some thought. The "Experts" told us at the meeting I attended that they are not concerned about the pike population in Long Lake because the spring draw down of the lake elliminates the spawning areas during spawning time and the pike are not able to effectively spawn. I don't know about the rest of you but I certainly remember trying to launch my boat this past spring and go walleye fishing on Lake Roosevelt. Now that was the place to go if you wanted to see a draw down. If the draw down at Long Lake keeps the pike from spawning there, why would anyone believe it wouldn't stop them from spawning in the Columbia. We can beat this dead horse till we're blue in the face, and we will, but it all boils down to one thing. MONEY, CASH, MULLAH. They have no leg to stand on when they say the pike are going to harm the native Bull Trout in the POR. How many Bull Trout have been found in the bellies of the hundreds of pike they have slaughtered. My guess is none. Last I heard, they had only found a handfull of trout of any kind in those pike. The studies I have heard about say it's the water temps in the POR that are causing the Bull Trout population to decline. It's the money folks. They even said it at the meeting and I have heard it in emails and conversations I have had with Mr. Conner of the Kalispel tribe. The power companies have slated hundreds of millions of dollars over the next 20 years, to help out the salmon populations. My guess is that their concerned that the power companies will pull their dollars if they can say the pike will wipe out any good that their projects will do, and make the salmon a lost cause. Personally I don't think the pike will have much of an effect on the salmon population in the columbia if they get there. But, I'm no "Expert", and I was wrong about something once before. Power to the pike!! (sombody already said that) and hey, who is the guy that was calling himself the Pike Guru earlier in this thread. I want to fish with him. Maybe he can help get me past the "Poser status" LOL Happy fishing folks!

Very Well said with regards to your position on the Pike invasion and showing us all how we can all too be Posers!!! If loving Pike and growing up catching them over the last 20 + years makes me a Poser than I agree with You, Sign Me Up to be even a Bigger Pike Poser!!! I too love other fish such as Salmon, Muskie, and Walleye, but there just is something about the Northern Pike that makes it one of a kind. I would urge anyone who wants to be a Pike Poser and wants to learn to love the great sport of Pike Fishing even more to seriously consider jumping onboard the opportunity at being a part of Pike Inc. The Great News is that this club is not to far off and we are literally on the doorstep of making this happen. Many of us have been working tirelessly to see this come to reality. It is just a matter of time and we will get to the Grand Opening of Pike Inc!!! Stay Tuned for the Fun to come!!! Tight Lines!!!

Has anyone talked to Bob from the N. Idaho Pike Association about a second chapter to their club? It might cut the cost down as well as get more people interested. I have his # on my phone if you need to call him. I'm not sure why but I hear they are dropping the P.O. river off their list for tournaments next year.

I got to take David Child of "Life is But a Dream" a fly fishing guide service out of Yakima, Wa. I got him hooked up on his first ever Pike last Spring on the P.O. and he got it on a fly he tied up himself off instruction from me on what to tie. Even though he is a seasoned Angler he was thrilled to land this fish. It chased my Swimbait from shallow water near the bank right up to the boat in about 6 feet , I didn't see the fish in time and lifted my lure out of the water, his fly was in the water a few feet away and that fish made a beeline to it and nailed it. So I take half the credit for the fish. LOL Here is a pix of his first ever pike.

David emailed me a few times about hooking up to fish the POR, but we were never able to line up a trip. We had it set up and something came up that he had to cancel. I'm glad to see that he finally got his pike. Where was that fish caught? Happy Fishing

come on my former NW'ers....The first tournament to help promote and get Pike, Inc. off the ground is already schedule down here in Colorado/New Mexico. This is going to be a very cold but exciting tournament down here.

By the way the pike in the flyer was caught on Dec 26 with a swim bait.
