Thanks a bunch JD! I was chackin out toni's site and im gonna be picking up a few things I think

I have 2 of each of the Red and White rods. I like them equally! Mike, the white rods work excellent for Baker lake sockeye. The red rods work excellent for Coho out in the sound as well. Best of all, they both work excellent for kokanee!

by the way, red rod works great for 2 28" steelhead on Riffe.

Can't wait for the season to start!!

I have 4 Lami JJ Team Kokanee 8'ers and they are AWESOME!

Absolutely love them. Soft tip for soft mouths, with some back bone for the big fish and keeping fish out of downriggers and the sort. But the lenth gives them a little extra forgiveness, so that backbone doesn't mess with your nice soft light action. They are great! And you can't beat them for the price!
I paired mine with Shimano Caenan's as they were on sale, and I like low profile reels.

Last year I used these rods for Lake Wenatchee Sockeye, and they were great too! We even caught a 24" Bull Trout on one, and it had plenty of back bone to handle it with little difficulty. Hard to find anything much better.

My only issue with them is the Micro Guides. Though a very cool concept, being on such a light/soft rod, that's meant for downriggers, they do not meet my idea of functionality, in that when loaded on a downrigger (and I don't crank my rods down a whole bunch) or when fighting a bigger fish, the line touches the blank. This is one of my personal pet peeves, but I really don't want to see my line on the underside of my blank, while the guides are ontop... lol

SO. I will be replacing my beloved white lamis with wonderful Fetha Styx kokanee/sockeye rods this year. These rods have very similar aspects to the Lamis, but are IMO higher quality, made in the USA (the lamis are chinese) and I feel have even a wider range of functionality. Plus, they have much better guides, suited to a soft rod thats going to be loaded up on a DR. My Caenan's will go back on these new rods

just curious the rational for concern about line touch- abrasion on the line?

I have the team kokanee rod from lamiglas great little rod, ive used it for cutthoart fishing been excellent. its a bargin at 59 bucks.

I was wondering the same thing. I am up to having an open mind..

I have caught a lot of fish on those white rods, and I usually have them bent down to the water. I have never had any problem with line abrasion. I do have to say that I usually switch out the line every season though.

I was curious about that too.

Hmm, I might have to give my white lami another shot. I took it to Sammamish and didn't like how it fished when trolling at higher speeds. It's awesome at kokanee trolling speeds. Wonder if it's the result of using lake downriggers and not full sized downriggers, they deflect like crazy since it's only a 4# ball. The red lami and sst kokanee rod seem to handle it better though.

After reading this post Ive been out looking for a new trout/ Kokanee rod. You all had some very good points that I tend to overlook about rod action. Time for me to join the new century.

BTW, here at the Portland show the red and white lamiglas rods are selling for $63. That's an unreal price.

But I would have to pay $75.00 in gas to do that so that would make it $138.00

all depends on how you look at it Toni. There's lot's of other neat things at the show to see (and buy).

The thing that wierds me out with the rod touch the line is that if there is even dust on your pole it will transfer to your line get on your guides, rub around on there, line fray and the sort. Maybe its just me being wierd. I usaully run braided line because mono has abrasion issues but I have heard thats not the best choice for kokes. Either way im going with the white rods I think. And that is a screaming deal on the poles!
