Just had to go fishing, been so long, loaded up the boat and motorhome and headed to areas we have never been to before, got to Spectacle lk and found out the ramp was to steep for the motor home so the resort people launched the boat for me. Got out early the next am and fished for about 2 hours with out much luck, we use single barbless hooks, love fishing but dont keep many fish unless they are hooked bad, any way after trying several different things I hit on the one..... 4/0 silver dodger with a 2" mini white squid, got my limit in about 20 mins, than the wife did the same thing. We had more fun watching the eagles and ospray fishing, 5 ospray and 2 eagles most of the morning really fun to watch them
We loaded up that night and in the am took off for Palmer lake, got there and the main ramp was under water water for about 30 feet, couldnt launch the lake had good color but was just to high, talked to several people and than took off for Conconully, got there and the lower lake looked like chocolate milk , not fishable for me, the upper area was great, fished that night and stayed at the state park. we were the only ones there, went back in the am, nice day kept 3 fish 1, 18 in and 2, 16 in. great time........will go someplace again on thursday................

RE:road trip, Spectacle lk, Palmer lk, Conconully lk
So what days exactly were you at Spectacle and Palmer? I just returned yesterday from a 4 day stay at Spectacle. Sat. thru Tues. Funny if you were there. Just about 100 yards from the launch was where all the big motor homes were camped. Yes the launch is a little steep for a motor home I agree. Spectacle was great trout fishing on the evening bite. I found a wooly bugger tied behind a small flasher was the ticket. It is funny that you were tracing our steps..... we also went to Palmer. Yes, the launch at the South end was very high with water. Funny thing though, I didn't realize just how high it was, so I launched my 14' Lund with my Subaru Outback. I had to back in so far in order to float the boat off the trailer, that when I opened my car door the water was 1" from the door entry. There actually is another launch up the lake about 2/3'rds the way, it is steeper and not a problem.
Hope you try Spectacle again sometime. They are great hosts with everything you need available to you. The trout weren't all that big, about 12" with a couple pushing 14".

looks like we were there at the same time, we spent 2 nites at the resort, saturday and sunday, left Monday A M for Palmer, looked at the dirt ramp on up at the lake but figured that I could get the boat in but a little worried about getting it out, just dont want to get stuck with that rig. trying to talk the wife into getting a small camper for our pickup. so we can hit some of these lakes. we were the first motor home on the left as you went down to the motorhome area, Jayco Grayhawk 32 ft SS, had a black Alumweld stryker 17 ft with a black top,on the beach right below where we were parked. We are leaving this AM for Omak lake for a couple of days than over to the Columbia for some triploid fishing. To bad we didnt know you were there.
