There should be 5-10 times more fish coming in daily. There just not coming.

Not that I know anyrhing about sockeye but I'll toss my two cents in anyway. I believe that some time this week the WDFW will issue an emergency rule change notice delaying the opener until later in the month. As I recall the spawing escapement is 4,000-5,000 fish and to help maintain genetic diversity the fish are collected incrementally throughtly the return.

In this case patience is a virtue, remember the first year the lake opened for sockeye fishing it didn't open until July 21st. The fishery was awesome and the catch rate held up well into late August.

we will know tomorrow when the numbers come back from last weekend. The trap should be seein multi hundred fish numbers right now and next week close to thousand fish days. if the numbers start dramatically jumping we have a chance. but if theyre staying where they have been its all over. A local that fishes the river every day said the indians have not even been out because they arent getting anything. A few days ago a test boat made drifts and pulled 5 fish. We will see what happens

I'm optimistic. But if this run is as bad as it's looked from the river season, WDFW really needs to rethink the way that it forecasts runs.

I wonder if it opens, if they're going to change the 3 fish limit. Just need see a 1,000 fish day
There are some achievements which are never done in the presence of those who hear of them. Catching salmon is one, and working all night is another.

Just Head over the the mountains and fish the Columbia. We are already over 500,000 fish past Bonneville, and the fishing has been on fire. I have been in the Wanapum Dam area and have been getting limits of Sockeye daily (4 sockeye per person) Plus a king or two most days. Brewster is going to be just as good in the next few weeks!

For sure, what an incredible run. I'm hoping to hit lake Wenatchee too.
