Started fishing about 6:30, just as the sun starts to hit the water seems to be the main factor in this lake to get the fish to start hitting on wedding rings.

Was the usually very good fishing for trout in the morning. We troll along the back side of the lake, from the boat launch, and there are a few spots that are better than others. There is a stand of huge willows near the shoreline on the north northeast side of the lake we call the willow hole and then the rock hole is the rocky area in front of a house towards the middle of the lake. At these two spots there is depth variations and rocks and boulders and springs that seem to hold more trout in these parts of the lake, although one can catch fish about anywhere.

We troll across these holes, catch fish on one or two poles, then turn around and reset our lines and troll across the holes again. This has consistently put limits in the boat for two or three people in two, or on a slower day, 3 hours or so. This way we don't waste time trolling in the less productive areas.

Used red wedding rings with a silver blade when the sun is out and a brass blade when there is cloud cover or in the early morning when the sun is not hitting the water yet. We use a 3/8 oz. slip weight on the line, then tie on a swivel snap and onto that the wedding rings. A note here, I always retie the wedding rings with a regular #4 or #6 worm hook on 4 lb. test line instead of using the cheaper, heavy, very visible line that the wedding ring comes tied with out of the package. Takes a little time to re-tie but is very well worth it when your catching more fish.

I feel its really important to use a worm threader when putting a worm on the hook, we get a lot more hook ups this way catching those finicky hitting trout. Using about a half of a night crawler, thread it on the hook and up the line so that the hook is coming out of the very end of the worm and that will give those short hitting fish a surprise!!

We troll about 1 MPH. Another trick for Roses is that when you first get a hit, don't set the hook, as hard as that may be.....when you feel the first tap slowly point your rod towards the back of the boat, slowing the bait down to almost not moving and then at the next tap, set the hook...this has proven time and time again to hook more fish in this lake!!

The lake was nice and calm and there were just a few boats on the water so that was nice. It took us about an hour and a half to get a 10 trout limit.

The trout were all about the same size today running a little on the small side but nice and chunky 11 - 13 inch fish....great for pan frying!!
