Took a co-worker (not very experienced at fishing) out on Roses lake to catch some bluegill (his family wanted to have a fish fry) And had a successful day on the water. I used Fly rod with floating poppers (small) and rubber leg, dubbed wet flies (size 6). Color didn't seem important with the poppers, but the best wets for me today were Olive dubbing, red cheneile butt, with white legs.Sizes ran up to 8 inches with smaller ones mixed in. Also A few small perch, and several LMB with the largest about 14 inches. My fishing bud used worms, jigs, and grubs with enough catching on his part to keep him excited. Water temp was running around 76 degrees, but the fish weren't really active until around 0900. Light wind with partly cloudy skies made the air temp bearable. We ended the trip with 3/4 of a gallon zip lock of boneless panfish fillets. Nice fry in the making.

When I got to the lake this AM, there was a couple from Moses lake fishing from the dock, and had caught a 17# channel cat earlier. They had been fishing for and catching bluegill when the Bad boy latched on. They were happy fishermen. I weighed the fish on my electronic scales, so the weight is pretty close.
Tight lines all, and be sure to stay hydrated out there.

If you keep having your "fish fry" all the pan fish will turn into what Dry lake has. As far as the picture Good to see the illegals taking my SSI and my all my fish.

Hi there AFK, I always enjoy floating around on Roses. There are several species to fish for and "usually" the fish are cooperative. I think next time out I may try deeper weed edges for some crappie. Thanks for reading the report, and good luck on your future fishing endeavors.

Hey bassfan22 , Dry lake still pumps out great numbers of fish, they are just on the small side. Some folks seem to think the panfish have overpopulated (more fish, less food per fish, smaller fish) in dry lake, but I haven't heard or saw any official report on the population. As we will usually toss back 3-4 fish for every one we keep, the population of panfish is in no danger of being depleted. When floating around on the lake you can observe literally hundreds of Bluegill/red-ear sunfish swimming in the shallows. Nice fodder for the bass and larger Brown trout in there, and a nice population base for future panfish populations..
Also, I'm sorry that you have had past experiences that would lead you to assume (and comment), "the illegals taking my SSI and my all my fish" JUST from a photo. I feel saddened that there wasn't anything positive in my report for you, but appreciate the fact you did read and comment.
Best wishes to you and stay safe.
