After leaving a no fish morning on Lake Chelan, I launched at Roses a little before noon. There were several "large" boats (skiers, tubers, and joy riders) on the water, and the lake was choppy from the wave action. The tullees were waving like wheat in the wind, and the water was quite murky in the shallows, but the bluegill were still active. I tried flyfishing with a small popper but the only thing I could catch was pumpkin seeds and small bass. Went with a subsurface Olive dubbed, red butt on a size 10 hook and hooked some larger ones. Also tried spinners, to no avail, and the ever trusty jig. Caught bluegill in 12 feet of water up to 2 feet along the shoreline. Water temp was around 70*. I kept 22 nice sized gills for meals with the larger today going 8 1/2 - 9 inches. Had to keep a few in the 7 inch range because of swallowed hook. Caught several 6 inch crappie, but no keepers today. I saw several nice bass swimming the shallows and hooked a 2 pounder on the small jigs, but didn't try for the LMB in particular today. Seems the favored jig today was a gold tube with black flakes jn1/64 oz size and Berkly's Gulp Black leech (1 in) in a 1/80 oz jig head. A great day to be on the water. everone stay safe

You went from Lake Chelan to Roses? Was there a stop at the Mill Bay Casino for some double down action at the Black Jack table between fishing holes? Hehe. What causes the varying color's of one Bluegill to another ?

Nice report on the bluegill. Was tempted myself to get out for more bluegill action while it lasts, but wanted to avoid the crowds. Maybe if I get a moment during the work week. Good eating.

wow, nice report! didn't even know they made jigs as small as 1/80 oz. the smallest i've seen or noticed was 1/32 lol :)

LOL Hey Ya MotoBoat, I like to keep my money in my pocket for better things (my opinion), like gas for the boat, a new rod once in a while. LOL I've always had better luck fishing than Black Jack. The colors vary between the males and females with the males being darker.

The rowds can be difficult at times, and through the week does cut down on that problem. Good luck when ya go out.

hello Elijah.Loves.Fishin, I've heard of 1/100th oz, but the 1/80 are the smallest I have used. It's almost like using an unweighted hook. The ones I was having luck with was picked up at Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee, and made by "Uncle Walts" Gold and metal flake tube. Tiny little things. Wife Cindy had the day off work, and went down and bought a couple cards of them today. I guess that means we will be fishing this coming week-end. Gotta love a woman like that. LOL
