Another trip to Roses. Cindy and I got on the lake around 11:30 and took out around 5:00. Scattered showers, with light to moderate wind. Surface Water temp was 66* today, several degrees cooler than last week. We started at the launch and drifted with the wind down along the west shoreline. Not much action untill we reached the lower half of the lake. There was a considerable chop on the water, and the wind was pushing the waves toward the lower end of the lake. Last week the action was in 12-20 feet of water, but today the bite was in shallower water. We caught fish in 4 feet of water out to around 10 feet or so. The LMB were on the feed today, the small juvies (6-12 inches) were everywhere, and I caught 6-8 in the 1-2 pound class and Many smaller ones.. The largest of the day was 2# 5oz, and cindy picked that one up. All bass were caught as incedentals while perch fishing, using 1/16 oz jighead with either micro plastics or the Berkley Gulp minnow in 3 inch size. Smelt color seemed to work well today. With the wave action, it was difficult to feel all the hits, but we caught lots of fish anyway. We caught several bluegill in the 8-9 in range today, but we were after the yellow perch, so back they went. Scads of little crappie caught, but just a few of any size. The bass we caught were healthy looking but not as chunky as in years past. Wonder if the population is starting to get overbalanced? Anyway, It is a good time to be out and enjoying the great outdoors, and a great chance to do some fall bass fishing. tight lines everyone
