Stayed with a group of friends in a beautiful vacation rental property on roses lake this weekend. I wasn't sure what the surface conditions of the lake would be, but since there was a dock at the house I made sure to bring my rods and tackle along.

It turned out that the end of the lake we were staying on was the only part of the lake that was not iced over, about 90% of the surface having thin ice and slush. Thid made fishing much easier and the lack of ice leads me to believe that our end of the lake was a prime place to be for a hungry winter trout.

Two of us had licenses, and on two days we easily caught our limits by floating garlic power eggs off the bottom. Fishing would be dead for 20 minutes, but when the school came by we could catch 4 or 5 in just minutes. I'm sure we could have limited out again this morning, but everyone had already eaten their fill of trout and we decided to just enjoy the view instead.

This is a great little lake that seems to have an abundance of catchable sized trout. I wonder if this lake was stocked heavily in preparation for an ice fishing season that was greatly shortened by a mild winter. Regardless, this should be a great lake to visit as it thaws out for some early season trout action!
