What jigs do you guys use... and do you bring your own light? My buddy and I are going to give this a try but have never done it before... so looking for a (hopefully) social pier to try this at so I can learn from the Pros a bit

I like using the smaller ones wrapped in yarns as the ones made in Japan I buy from Lincs. There a bit spendy but only if they are near the bottom. I dont think color makes a huge difference. When theyre in they hit.

are squid really seasonal? looks like its open year 'round and reading some things on the 'net made me think maybe you can fish for them anytime. But it always seems like people go in the dead of winter out here.

To be honest squid are year round....no idea who started the whole "squid are only there in the winter" I've caught them all throughout the spring, summer, fall, and winter. I've even had times in the summer where I've limited in less than an hour in broad daylight. This usually happens around July while they're spawning. Now I dont know if its another species of squid or what but they seem to spawn in the winter as well. As far as jigging for them at night I've caught them all year round as long as there is a light. Spring squid are very small, summer squid are good size, fall and winter too. Winter are biggest and tastiest.

I'll start in late June or mid July, right now they just too small.
